Hi, my name is David McGovern; I was born in Dublin Ireland in 1978 in a hospital called the Coombe. I grew up in Ireland in a place called Templeogue with my mother and father, two brothers and my sister. I went to school at Bishop Shanahan, Bishop Galvin and St Mac Dara’s. I earned my learning cert from St Mac Dara’s, which is the equivalent to your High school diploma in America. I grew up playing sports like Hurling, Soccer, Gaelic Football and Rugby. One of my first jobs was for an American company called 3Com. Little did I know at the time that I would soon be spreading my wings and ending up in America. At a young age after school I decided to travel the world with my childhood friends. We visited places like Singapore, Malaysia, New Zealand and Australia. I stayed in Australia for 1 year on a work Visa. This is where my adventure started to the road to America. In 2000, the Olympics came to Sydney and with it came many people from all over the world. During the Olympics, I met my wife, the daughter of a police Chief in Jupiter Florida. My wife lived in Ireland with me until 911 happened and there was a lot of uncertainty in the world. She decided she wanted to come back to America, so I shut up shop in Ireland and joined her here in 2001. I have lived here in Jupiter Florida with my wonderful wife and 4 beautiful children ever since. I have had the privilege of being a firefighter/paramedic at Tequesta Fire Rescue for 15 years and recently have been promoted to Lieutenant. I love what I do. It is not a job to me; it is a passion. America has provided an amazing life for myself and my family and I always felt the need to give back. The fire department helps fill some of that but I always wanted to do more. I have been involved with many charities over the years and I love to help and give back. 10 years ago, I helped start and coordinate an event called the Tequesta Fire Rescue Chili Cook-off in Tequesta Florida. The Goal was to raise money for SE Honor Flight having a Beer tasting/Chili Cook-off event. Our first year we raised about $8000 and it felt amazing sending our WWII Veterans to Washington DC to see their memorials. To make a long story short, jump forward 10 years and the Tequesta Chili Cook-off is one of the biggest events around. We now donate to Operation 300, SE Honor Flight, Friends of Public Safety and Renewal Coalition. Over the past 10 years we have donated over $350,000 to these charities all while honoring the brave men and women and their families every year. It is such a patriotic event.
You see folks I love this country and am always so grateful for everything it has given me in return but my heart has also never left Ireland. I also love my home country and am very proud of where I came from. I started a travel company and get to bring people to Ireland every year and show them a little piece of heaven. I love to show them my culture, the sights, the food, the entertainment and just have some craic, (Craic is fun in Ireland). I understand not everyone can afford and have the means to go to Ireland so I want to bring Ireland to you in the form of Jupiter Irish Fest, We will have Irish food, drinks, Guinness, whiskey, Irish Coffees and more. We will have traditional music, pipers, dancers and so much more. I have wanted to do this for years and I have decided that March 13th 2021, St Patrick’s weekend I will do my best to bring Ireland to Jupiter, Florida in a way people have not seen before. I look forward to seeing everyone there and having the Craic.
